4 Reasons to Spend A Weekend at The Fullerton Hotel

There’s a thirst among Singaporeans to discover their heritage, and as a young journalist recently said to me during the Bedok Heritage Trail walk, it’s a reflection of all that we have lost. I couldn’t agree more. Along those lines, staycations & weekend hotel packages that combine heritage have become very popular lately in Singapore.

The Fullerton Hotel is offering one such package, and with the June holidays just started, this is a great weekend escape for the family. This deal is also open to tourists. So, here’s 4 reasons why you should spend a weekend there.

#1. Live in History. You get to stay in one of Singapore’s grandest, and historically most significant buildings. Built in 1928, it was originally the General Post Office, the site where the Singapore Stone was found (you can see it in the National Museum a picturesque 20 minute walk away) and witness to loads of important historical events both good and bad.

#2. Treats to keep kids entertained. The kids will be well taken care of, which means you don’t need to wrack your brains to figure out how to keep them entertained. They’ll get lots of treats as part of this package including an ice cream pass for one scoop of ice cream daily, a super cute Fullerton Bear (per room), and a copy of ‘The Little Singapore Book‘, a hard cover, beautifully illustrated children’s storybook of Singapore’s history and culture — which I wrote! 🙂 At night, kids will have a special turn-down treat of personalised cookies and milk, and child-size bathrobe and slippers on request.

#3. The programme’s been figured out for you. The package comes with Singapore Standard Jubilee Pass for two adults and two children. This pass gets you into about 10 attractions in Singapore, like the Tiger Brewery tour, Sentosa Bicycle Tour, the Singapore Art Museum, etc. Tour the town if you’re from overseas, or be a tourist at home for the day. If that’s not enough, take part in the hotel’s free heritage tours that brings you to see the plethora of historic sites around the hotel. This is part of the package.

#4. Take in the historic sights all within walking distance of the hotel. It’s the perfect location for history buffs. Drop in at the Fullerton Hotel’s Heritage Gallery and see old maps & images of the area, and the old red post box ye olde England style,  have a morning jog round the civic district and Esplanade walk and round the Marina Bay area, walk over to the National Gallery which was the old Supreme Court, and have weekend lunch at the Clifford Pier in the nearby Fullerton Bay Hotel just opposite. This is easily one of the most beautiful places for weekend lunch in Singapore (lots of local food, dim sum and bubbly at a most reasonable price), housed in an 83 year old building which used to be a busy ferry terminal.
