Here’s a new concept that has opened in Hong Kong, a hip Italiano ‘food court’ that is easy on the pocket, very casual and a great place to pop into after all that shopping along Fashion Walk.
It’s called EAT-it and its turning out to be a cosy reprieve for tired shoppers who want a quick pick me up (think aromatic Italian coffee and desserts) and a lovely weekend option for families dining out.
I popped by the Grand Opening which saw tons of people queuing to get into the 5000 square foot store set up with various stalls serving rustic pizzas, a variety of simple but tasty hand-made pastas, (my favourite) cous-cous with grilled vegetables, deep fried items (friggitoria) and other home-style authentic Italiano recipes and desserts. There are apparently 6 counters where you can enjoy different Italian foods and all using non GMO ingredients along with Dolci (desserts) and bar and beverage items.
Behind the concept is Chef Gianni Caprioli part of the team that set up Isola in Hong Kong and more recently, the name behind Giando (his own restaurant, opened 2012 in Wan Chai, Hong Kong).
The idea behind Eat-it was to create a carnival style experience in Italian eating – bringing together passion and flavour in one setting. The Chef’s inspiration – to go back to family roots and offer artisanal style home-cooking made with fresh family-farm produce.
The eatery has a market section which offers wines, cheeses, olive oils and other made-in-Italy foods that you can take back to your own kitchen to prepare.
Eat-it is at 9 Kingston Street, Fashion Walk, Causeway Bay. Tel: +852 2489 8822.
